The Lamborghini Aventador is a mid-engine supercar produced by the Italian carmaker Lamborghini. In keeping with Lamborghini tradition, the Aventador is named after a Spanish fighting bull in Zaragoza, Aragón in 1993.

The Aventador LP700-4 is the first iteration of the Aventador and was designed by Filippo Perini. Production of the Aventador was planned to be limited to 4,000 vehicles; however, in 2016 it reached the 5,000 unit mark. The molds used to make the carbon fiber monocoque are supposed to last 500 molds each and only 8 were made.

The car's shape borrows heavily from Lamborghini's limited edition Reventón and the Estoque concept car.

The Aventador was unveiled at Lummus Park in Miami, then at Miami International Airport, then at Auto China 2014 (with a Nazionale configuration via the Lamborghini Ad Personam customization program).

2 Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 Roadster

The Aventador LP700-4 Roadster was announced for production on December 27, 2012. Equipped with the same V12 engine as the coupe version, Lamborghini claims it can accelerate from 0 to 97 km/h (0-60 mph) in 2.9 seconds and will reach a top speed of 349 km/h (217 mph).

The removable roof consists of two carbon fiber panels, each weighing 13 pounds (6 kg), which required reinforcement of the rear pillar to compensate for the loss of structural integrity as well as to accommodate the rollover protection and engine ventilation systems. The panels are easily removable and are stored in the front cargo area. The Aventador Roadster features a uniquely designed engine hood and removable air deflector to improve cabin airflow at very high speeds, as well as a gloss black finish on the A-pillars, windshield, roof panels and rear window. With a total weight of 1,625 kg (3,583 lb), it is only 50 kg (110 lb) heavier than the coupe (the weight of the roof, plus the additional stiffening of the sills and A-pillars).

3 engine

The Aventador LP700-4 uses Lamborghini's new 700 PS (515 kW; 690 hp), 6,498 cc (6.5 L; 396.5 cu in), 60° V12 engine, weighing 235 kg. Known internally as the L539, the new engine is Lamborghini's fifth in-house engine and the second V12 designed. It is the first all-new V12 since the 3.5-liter engine in the 350GT.

The engine is a 12-cylinder engine to get out of the shadow cast by the Gallardo and brazenly take on all Ferraris and all other 12- and 16-cylinder exotics on every quantifiable and subjective level. The Gallardo will finally eat a small pie of humility and take its rightful place as the firm's second "people's car" in higher volumes.

The Aventador's acceleration time to 60 mph is 2.8 seconds (that's 2.9 at 100 km/h) when dawdling in the Launch Control fields. The engine screams with full power up to 8,250 rpm, and it's much smoother in the mid-range, with nearly all of the 509 lb-ft of torque available from 5,000 rpm and more at low rpm. The new seven-speed Graziano ISR ("Independent Shifting Rods") single-clutch transmission is said to make Corsa mode shifts in just 50 milliseconds, while weighing half as much as the old Audi R-tronic dual-clutch system. And for the first time on a Lamborghini, the suspension is taken directly from the thinking of Formula 1 cars with its sophisticated configuration of springs and inboard pushrod dampers. Top speed achieved so far, we're told, has exceeded the advertised 217 mph maximum.

4 Performance

0-100 km/h (0-62 mph): 2.9 seconds

0-161 km/h (0-100 mph): 6.4 seconds

400 m (1⁄4 mi): 10.5 seconds at 220 km/h (137 mph)

Top speed:

Official: 350 km/h (217 mph)

Measured by Sport Auto magazine: 354 km/h (220 mph)...

97-0 km/h (60-0 mph): 30 m (100 ft).

Cornering: 1.05 g.

The transmission, a seven-speed single-clutch automated manual, is made by Graziano Trasmissioni. Although it is single-clutch, gear changes are made in 50 milliseconds.

The new electronically controlled all-wheel drive system is developed and supplied by Swedish company Haldex Traction, offering traction and handling capabilities based on their 4th generation technology.
