Mercedes-Benz EQA
The Mercedes-Benz EQA is a 100% electric urban SUV, marketed by the German manufacturer Mercedes-Benz from 2021. It is the second model in the EQ series dedicated to 100% electric cars from the Stuttgart-based manufacturer, after the EQC marketed from 2019.
Mercedes-Benz EQ is a series of battery electric vehicles manufactured by Mercedes-Benz. The first model was previewed at the 2016 Paris Motor Show with the Generation EQ concept vehicle Mercedes-Benz intends to produce ten EQ models by 2022, including three from the Smart brand, representing between 15% and 25% of the company's global sales. All of Mercedes-Benz's electric vehicle design and production efforts will be aimed at the EQ family.
The Mercedes-Benz EQC, the first member of the EQ family, was introduced at a special event in Stockholm in 2018.
Family
Mercedes-Benz intends to design and manufacture ten EQ models by 2022, all of which will be based on a single platform developed specifically for electric drivetrains, which can be configured for any vehicle type through modularization. Three models will carry the Smart brand.
Dieter Zetsche, chairman of Daimler AG, said the new brand will bring together all of Mercedes-Benz's "electrification efforts," with the goal of it accounting for between 15 percent and 25 percent of the company's global sales by 2025, depending on "ongoing infrastructure development and customer preferences." Jurgen Schenk, a Daimler executive who will oversee the development of the electric vehicle program, said the company expects improvements in the energy density of battery technology to be about 14 percent per year through 2025, equivalent to the improvements seen between 2010 and 2016.
To meet the production targets, Daimler AG intends to invest €1 billion in global battery production expansion projects, half of which will be dedicated to lithium-ion battery manufacturing facilities at its subsidiary Deutsche ACCUmotive in Kamenz, Germany, as part of a company investment of up to €10 billion for electric vehicle design and development.
The vehicles will use the combination charging system, a wall charger or an optional wireless inductive charging system.
